In 2008 65% of households have internet access, this is 16 million households. Durning 2006 only 57% of households had internet access this rose by 8% between 2006 and 2008.
This is shown in the graph below:
The region with the most Internet access within the UK was the South East with 74% of households having Internet access. The region with the least Interent access was the North East with only 54% of households having access.
Another interesting fact that I was able to find out was that 93% of adults under 70 years of age who have a degree or an equivalent qualification are most likely to have access to the Internet in their home. In comparison 56% of individuals who had no formal qualifications, are least likely to have an Internet connection in their home.
Also the percentage of households having broadband has risen from 40% in 2006, it then rose by 11% to 51% having access, between 2006 and 2007 it rose a further 5% between 2007 and 2008 from 51% to 56%.
The dial up connection has declined in numbers over the years as more and more people are getting a braodband Internet, In 2006 17% had a dial up connection by 2008 it had dropped to only 9%.
Numbers also declined in the number of households not having Internet access. In 2006 43% of households had no Internet connection, by 2008 only 35% of households had no Internet connection.
The 16-24 age group used the Internet more than any other age group, in total 77% of this age group used the Internet everyday.
Around three quarters of men use the Internet on a regular basis this is around 73%. Only two thirds of women use the Internet on a regular basis this is around 66%.
